Stirling Astronomical Society Gallery

An intense geomagnetic storm following a large coronal mass ejection (CME) from the Sun caused colourful auroral displays across Europe and in the United States. Here the Aurora was visible briefly through a gap in the cloud cover. In this image, Orion, Taurus and the Pleiades on the left are joined by the green and red colours of the Aurora on the right.
