Stirling Astronomical Society Gallery

Several large and complex groups of sunspots on the face of the Sun. Spot number 4046 is the large spot near the centre. The 540 nm solar continuum filter brings out details such as faculae near the solar limb and structure within the penumbra of the larger sunspots. Closeup views reveal filaments within the penumbra of the large spot and structure within the other groups.
