Stirling Astronomical Society Gallery

M81, sometimes known as Bode's Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy in Ursa Major. Approximately 12 million light years from Earth, it is one of our nearest galactic neighbours. The faint patch of blue nebulosity towards the right of this image is dwarf galaxy Holmberg IX, a close companion of M81.
