A selection of features on the gibbous Moon, two days after First Quarter. This image shows Mare Imbrium, a vast lava plain surrounded by mountain ranges. The large circular crater Plato towards the top of the image has a smooth floor. Other features clockwise from Plato include the Alpine Valley and craters Cassini, Aristillus, Autolycus, Archimedes and (bottom of image) Eratosthenes, a distinctive multi-peaked crater at the southern tip of the Appenine mountain range.
